The Old Pottery in Gamleby has a rich history. The building has housed Swedish potters since the mid-1800s. One of the more famous is Julius “Pottelerius” Nilsson (1848-1923) from Simrishamn, who worked here around the turn of the century 1900. Laholm used to be one of Sweden’s most important pottery towns. The good access to clay along the river Lagan and the town’s many marketplaces was a key to success.
